Introduction

We have 3 of these imacs, the blue model. Picked them up for $50ea.

Current State

- 1x Keyboard is broken
- 2x Apple Pro mouse is broken
- 1x Computer needed RAM (added) and HDD (pending IDE2SD adapter arrival)
- 1x Computer black screen and boot music, also with HDD disconnected, needs review
- 1x Computer is operating but looks like the hdd is broken have now replaced HDD, MACOS 9.2.2 installed FIXED)


- Have purchased 3x IDE2SD adapters (Model:SD35VC0)
- USB boot disk doesn't mount the HDD, not sure if this is indicative of the HDD problems or a limitation of the disk
- First boot from USB after a long cool down saw the hdd and initialized it, inserting the secondary USB with the OS installation media on it was also successful and could begin the - - installation to the HDD from it.

To Do

- Install IDE to SD adapter to replace the HDD DONE
- Install MACOS 9.2.2 either from disc or USB DONE


Notes

- Can be booted from a USB (depending on the creation method)
- Can be booted from USB without HDD installed
- IDE seems to be finicky about which HDDs it will accept
- You can boot from a USB then install MACOS 9.2.2 from another USB drive images from a toast file
- Device will just show a black screen if the HDD can't be recognized, wont boot into OpenFirmware nor Option Boot


Create a bootable USB from a .toast image on Linux

`dd if= of=`


May be able to seen by options boot, hold down options key before power on but not always the case.


Can be booted from Open Firmware

Hold `Option+Command+O+F` during boot to enter open firmware, release when prompted.


When you see the ok 0> prompt you are ready to enter commands

To boot from an images USB drive enter the following command and press enter

  0 > boot usb0/disk@1:,\\:tbxi
```
This will boot the first USB mass storage device on the system (usb0)


- boot - boot from the following device
- usb0 - boot from a device on the first USB hub
- disk - the usb mass storage device on usb0
- @1 - targets the first partition
- tbxi - boot from the file iwth the file type tbxi (yaboot)
